Greg Cook

Greg Cook is a world-leading expert and active researcher in the field of metabolism and energetics of microorganisms and the translation of this information into the development of new strategies to combat the growing threat of antimicrobial resistance. The exemplar for his research has been Mycobacterium tuberculosis, where he has made pioneering contributions to the development of new drugs that target membrane proteins involved in ATP synthesis and respiration. Greg has authored over 300 career papers and trained and mentored over 100 postgraduate students, including 40 PhD students as primary supervisor, and 30 postdoctoral/research fellows. Greg has extensive experience in leadership of large multi-investigator, multidisciplinary and cross-institutional research programmes as Director of the Maurice Wilkins Centre for Molecular Biodiscovery and China-New Zealand Joint Laboratory on Biomedicine and Health (Chinese Academy of Sciences), and Director of successive MBIE Endeavour Research Programme Grants.
